Sister Cities International is the premier organization for citizen diplomacy
in the United States. Sister Cities International motivates and empowers municipal
officials, volunteers, and youth to conduct long- term programs of mutual benefit
and interest with their sister city counterparts.
Nestled in the hills in the province of Avellino, Montella is the home for many
immigrants, first-generation, and second-generation Italian Americans who now call
Norristown home. The rich ethnic heritage and cultural pride that Montellesi hold
dear have been nurtured through the marriage of Montella and Norristown through the
Sister Cities International program. Established in 1991 this partnership continues
to provide not only a link to Montella's rich past and traditions, but also to its
present and future greatness.
The educational and cultural exchanges provided through the student exchange program
have provided the children in both cities the chance to engage in meaningful
dialogue and complete immersion in each other's culture. The continued support of
Sister Cities International and its Montella-Norristown committee are essential for
its success.
- To develop community partnerships between Norristown and Montella.
To create opportunities for students or citizens to experience and explore other
cultures through long-term community partnerships
- To create an atmosphere in which economic and community development will be
implemented and strengthen
- To stimulate environments through which communities will creatively learn, work,
and solve problems together through reciprocal cultural, educational, municipal,
business, professional, and technical exchanges and projects.
- To collaborate with organizations in the United States and other countries that
have similar goals.
